Why choose acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a gentle, research informed therapy that works with your body’s natural processes. Using precise treatments based on Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture may support the body’s ability to adapt to stress, encourage relaxation, and promote healthy physiological function.

Rather than focusing only on individual symptoms, acupuncture looks at the broader patterns that may be contributing to how you’re feeling. Everyone’s experience is different, which is why your treatment is tailored to your body, your experiences, and your goals.

Acupuncture can offer support for a wide range of health concerns, including:

• Anxiety, stress, and emotional well-being
• Sleep support

• Digestive health
• Fertility and reproductive health

• Menstrual cycle support

• Perimenopause and menopause

• Pain management, including headaches, muscle tension and joint pain

• Pregnancy support, including breech positioning, labour preparation, and postpartum care

• Cosmetic acupuncture and facial rejuvenation

FAQ

How Acupuncture Works

Acupuncture works by inserting needles into specific points on the body. This stimulation interacts with the nervous system and local tissues, influencing how the brain and body process pain and other sensory signals. Research also shows that acupuncture can affect the autonomic nervous system, which plays a role in functions such as heart rate, digestion, and the body's response to stress.

These effects can help reduce pain, improve physical function, and support the body's ability to regulate its response to symptoms. Acupuncture has been studied extensively for conditions including chronic pain, headaches, migraines, osteoarthritis, and back and neck pain.

Does Acupuncture Hurt?

Acupuncture needles are very fine and treatment is generally not painful. You may notice a quick sensation when the needle is inserted or stimulated. Sometimes you may experience something known as "De Qi", which is the feeling associated with the activation of an acupuncture point. This may present like an ache, heaviness, tingling, numbness or a zapping sensation.

What to expect at your appointment

Your first appointment will begin with a thorough intake. Here we will discuss your health history, current symptoms, and what you are hoping to work on through treatment. I will then assess your tongue and pulse to help confirm your diagnosis and decide on an individualized treatment plan.  Once complete, your acupuncture treatment can begin.

Needles are typically retained for about 20 to 30 minutes, although this can vary depending on your individual needs and constitution.

Follow up appointments begin with a brief check in about how you have been feeling and any changes since your last treatment. Your tongue and pulse will be assessed again before we begin the treatment.

What to wear to an appointment

It is recommended to wear loose, comfortable clothing to your acupuncture appointment. This makes it easier to access necessary points.

Hi, I'm Sarah.

I am a Doctor of Acupuncture, mom, wife, nature lover, and lifelong learner with a passion for helping others reconnect with their health and wellbeing.

My family’s own experiences navigating health and finding balance are what led me to acupuncture. This journey deepened my appreciation for holistic medicine and inspired me to support others in feeling heard, understood, and empowered in their own healthcare.

I believe the body holds incredible wisdom, and with the right support, we can create space for healing and balance.

Lets begin.

Insurance & Direct Billing

We are happy to offer direct billing to many major insurance providers. We will do our best to submit your claim on your behalf, but direct billing cannot be guaranteed, as coverage and submission requirements vary between individual insurance plans. In some cases, self submission may be required.

If you have secondary insurance, we are happy to attempt to coordinate benefits. However, depending on your plan, you may need to submit the remaining balance to your secondary provider yourself.

Please note that if your insurance plan covers a percentage of acupuncture treatment, that percentage is based on the maximum amount your plan allows per visit, not necessarily the full cost of treatment at Within Us Acupuncture.

To avoid unexpected costs, we recommend contacting your insurance provider before your appointment to confirm your acupuncture coverage, maximums, and any specific requirements for reimbursement.
